Services User Acceptance Testing

Timeframe February 2020

Sun Communities

Project #

Sun Communities is a publicly-traded real estate investment trust that invests in manufactured housing communities, recreational vehicle resorts, and marinas.

In February 2020, I conducted User Acceptance Tests on four use cases on various website pages.

Objective #

The purpose of this testing was to perform User Acceptance Testing to determine if it was possible for a visually impaired person using a specified screen reader and browser to complete these tasks. This testing focused on the screen reader user experience. It did not focus on finding WCAG failures.

Work #

Use cases:

  1. RV Site Booking flow
  2. Vacation Home Sales - Search
  3. Vacation Home Sales - More info
  4. Resident User Login

Tools used:

  • Assistive Technology - NVDA 2019
  • Browser - Firefox (version 72)
  • Operating System - Windows 10

End Result #

Sun RV Resorts demonstrated extreme difficulty for use case #1 (RV Site Booking flow), use case #2 (Vacation Home Sales - Search), and use case #3 (Vacation Home Sales - More info). Use case #4 (Resident User Login) was the best part of the site when evaluated for UAT, but it also had some moderate usability issues of its own.

Team #

The team for this project included one representative from Sun Communities, plus a project manager from Deque. I was responsible for the testing and creating the UAT report based on workflows created by the client and myself.

Reflection #

This project was interesting in that the client was insistent that their website was accessible and usable before the UAT and changed their minds after reviewing the report, but decided to make minimal changes to their website even after agreeing with the UAT results. It is unclear why sometimes a client asks for a UAT review but does nothing to address the issues found.
